So imagine you have a 39 inch chest, you’re in trouble. The clothing industry seems to believe our body size moves in 2 inch increments, so you’re either tired of having to either be squeezed into a 38 inch jacket, or end up wearing a slightly baggy 40 inch one… Apart from paying a tailor, how do you solve that problem?
Add 1 inch to your chest in 1 week with 1 simple exercise
Sounds surprisingly achievable and can you imagine achieving such a noticeable change in such a short time. If you can do that in 1 week, what more could you do after that…
You’ll be hard pushed to find anyone who has not done a few, if not mastered the technique for this exercise, and doing this consistently will produce the results you desire. The answer? Well put simply, it’s push ups, but with a twist.
Day 1: To failure and back
So first things first, decide which day you will start and maximise your protein the day before and on the day to help build muscle.
How does the exercise work? Simply put: do as many push ups as possible first thing in the morning. This is your base number that you’ll increase by the end of the week.
Then, 2 hours later, do half as many push ups as your max. Then 2 hours later, do half of the last set, but with a minimum of 5 reps. And again, 5 times altogether.
08:00 Max reps (eg. 40) 10:00 Half of Max (e.g. 20) 12:00 Quarter of Max (e.g. 10) 14:00 Eighth of Max (e.g. 5) 16:00 Sixteenth of Max (e.g. 5 as that’s the minimum)
In this example the total amount of reps is 80, not bad for a beginner.
Intense? Do you have to push until you can’t anymore? You bet, but focus on the results, you’ll be amazed. Also realise you’re talking about a grand total of 5 minutes of exercise today!
Day 2: Work from the base up
Call this a much needed recovery day, but through in a touch of light exercise: half of your maximum number of push ups in the morning and same in the afternoon. (So 20 and 20 in our example). Exercise time c. 2 minutes, that’s all.
… and then repeat day 1 and 2 until the end of the week.
My result: 1 inch added to my chest and my max number of push ups increased to 91 from an initial number of 50.
What does that mean for your business?
We’re great at dabbling in many many things. More pies than you have fingers to put in. But how many do you truly master? You own more books about business, selling or start ups than you’re bookshelf can hold. Perhaps time to better yourself, time to try doing with dedicated focus.
What transformation can you achieve in 1 week?
The great shift here, is succeeding at focusing on 1 thing for 1 week and growing. Regardless of what happens this is a positive mind shift: succeed daily/ weekly at 1 thing you’ve set yourself.
The point here is not just bulking up, though that is a nice bonus. The point is you have to be prepared to put in the hard yards, go through some pain with relentless focus and fail a number of times to reach your goal. In sport as in life, push yourself hard consistently to achieve your goal… so why not try it, but only for 1 week. Think of 1 thing you want to achieve and what would be a great improvement in 1 week. Focus on it solely for 1 week. And if you have a full time job, no excuse, focus all your spare time on it.
